When teams are crashing and burning

There are many reasons why teams can crash and burn, including: 1) lack of clear mandate, 2) lack of trained facilitation, 3) lack of helpful ground rules, 4) lack of leadership support, and 5) lack of team consensus.

How to solve?  1) leadership revises and clarifies the mandate, 2) a trained facilitator is assigned to the team, 3) stop the proceedings, go back to the start, and agree on helpful ground rules, 4) confront leadership on whether they really want the team to succeed; if so, support is necessary, and 5) with good facilitation do the things necessary to arrive at consensus rather than "I win/you lose" voting.

Makes sense?

Dan
