Get to the true AIM

Often the true AIM (most fundamental goal) is not obvious.  Indeed, it may even be opposite to the stated AIM.  For instance, a religious group whose stated AIM is "bring people to Jesus" may actually be seeking to satisfy the need for performing a religious ceremony which may be off-putting to any visitors!  So reconciling the stated AIM with the true AIM can clarify what's really going on.  Otherwise you may be spinning your wheels as you talk past each other.
