Ask polite but pointed questions

ASKING is: 1) respectful, 2) precise, and 3) directing.

Versus: "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone say!"  much better might be: "That's interesting.  What is the basis for drawing that conclusion?"

Or, "We should cut expenses by firing all you dummies."  better might be: "We've had a large fall in revenue.  To avoid going under, what do you think we should do?"

The same criticism can be expressed by a careful question to engage and direct others rather than antagonize them.

Re: Ask polite but pointed questions

Note: the temptation and impulse is not to ask, rather than to tell.  Telling is often disrespectful, imprecise, and demotivating.

Bosses, take care.  This applies to you talking to subordinates as well as them talking to you.
